THE SPORT
What is Synchronized Skating? One of the fastest growing and exciting sports in Canada, synchronized skating involves groups of skaters who perform choreographed routines in unison to music, executing intricate footwork in a variety of maneuvers and formations. Combining the artistry and athleticism of figure skating with the excitement of team sport, synchronized skating attracts skaters of all ages and ability. The combination of creative choreography, appealing music and attractive costumes makes this a great sport for participants and spectators alike. Not only is it a fast paced, competitive team-building sport for the fittest of athletes, synchronized skating also allows skaters to continue participating well into their golden years. Formerly called Precision Skating, it is truly a sport for all ages.
THE HISTORY
The Camrose Skating Club is a not-for-profit organization committed to providing the opportunity to participate in synchronized skating while promoting sport as a healthy lifestyle choice. Our teams have a long and distinguished history. Camrose boasted one of the first synchronized skating teams in Western Canada, formed back in 1981. Today, Camrose has two teams with outstanding achievements. The Pre-Juvenile and Juvenile teams “Electric Ice” have consistently placed as Silver and Gold Medallists in provincial competitions. In 2007 at the Western Canadian Regional held in Chilliwack, B.C. our Juvenile team took home the Silver Medal. Our teams were proud to host the Skate Canada Western Regional Festival of Synchronized Skating at Edgeworth Centre in February 2008.
