    Tentative Program Schedule

Registration for CanSkate (first session) takes place in September each year, with skating beginning in October.  Second Session Registration for CanSkate typically takes place in December, with skating starting in January.

CanSkate is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. When you sign up for CanSkate you will be in a program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. You will earn badges and other incentives as you learn fundamental skating skills. Lessons are given in a group format and led by an NCCP certified professional coach. Professional coaches are assisted by trained Program Assistants. The coach to student ratio is a maximum of 1:10. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, music and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote learning. When you/your child registers for a CanSkate program at your local Skate Canada club, you also become a member of Skate Canada.

newStarSkate Group (Junior Development) will be divided into two 10 week programs.  One session before Christmas and one session after Christmas.

Parent coordinator for this season is Tamami Lee.  If you have any questions or concerns please speak to her or contact her by email.

STARSkate Group or Junior Development is a 10 week program that offers an introductory step for young skaters into figure skating. Skaters will learn basic figure skating skills in a small group setting (60 minutes per week).

You do not need to invest in special clothing. Good choices are warm clothing that the skater can move in that is not baggy and that does not drag on the ice. Proper fitting skates are essential. If you are unsure about skates, the coach can make suggestions, or you may look for advice at United Cycle or Professional Skate Service in Edmonton. Please download this handbook for more information on the group format used in lessons.

Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition - this is what STARSkate is all about! STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Skaters who have mastered figure skating skills in STARSkate may also choose to pursue synchronized skating or pairs skating.

Camrose is fortunate to have coaches with advanced coaching skills allowing our skaters to advance to the highest levels in the test streams and beyond.  This program begins in September and continues until March/April each year.

  • SPRING SCHOOL

Camrose Skating Club will not be holding a spring skating school in 2011.  Our apologies for any inconvenience.

  • SUMMER SCHOOL

Camrose Skating Club offers a Skating Summer School in  August each year for CanSkate, STARSkate & Junior Development categories.  This is an excellent opportunity to try out skating prior to registering for the main season for the younger children, and a chance to brush up on skating habits & skills for those with experience.

Please visit the downloads page for registration forms & details.  You may find current registration forms after March of each year.

Please note that the summer school for 2011 has been canceled as of April 27th.  We sincerely hope to offer a Summer Skating School in 2012.
